Career Exploration at Bessemer City Middle School

\Students can explore careers in technology, trades, health, and human services through programs such as:

  • Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing: Get better at typing using the touch method. Practice creating simple documents with correct formatting. Build strong typing skills to use technology well.

  • Introduction to Office Productivity: Learn about word processing features and how to use them. Find out how to plan and give a good multimedia presentation. Explore how spreadsheets work and what they do.

  • Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship: Learn about how businesses work and what entrepreneurship means. Study what makes a good entrepreneur and how to start a business. Gain skills for careers in business, finance, and marketing.

  • Career Exploration: Carpentry and Electrical - Take part in activities that teach about careers in construction and manufacturing. Learn about your skills, values, and interests. Explore career paths, training, and education options. Find the best and most affordable way to reach your career goals and prepare while at school.

  • Exploring Careers and Employment: Learn how to plan your career and get ready for future jobs. Explore different types of work and the skills needed to succeed. Build skills in communication, managing yourself, and teamwork. Gain knowledge for careers in all CTE pathways.

  • Exploring Technology I: Learn to use technology, engineering, and design journals and the Engineering Design Process. Build and test models for design challenges. Try out different types of energy sources.

  • Exploring Technology II: Design and build systems to reach specific goals. Take things apart to find and fix problems. Create, build, and record models for engineering challenges.

  • PLTW Gateway: Design and Modeling: Students learn about the design process and how creativity and new ideas affect their lives. Then, they use what they’ve learned to design a special toy for a child with cerebral palsy.
