About Us

Bessemer City Middle School is a place where tradition meets opportunity. With a proud history and a commitment to student success, the school offers a welcoming environment where students from all backgrounds can learn, grow and thrive.

Students at Bessemer City Middle benefit from a wide range of programs that support both academics and personal growth. The school embraces the arts with a vibrant band, pep band, chorus and art classes that inspire creativity. In 2024-2025, the school introduced an exciting World Languages Club that gives students a chance to explore different languages and cultures from around the world.

The school is proud to serve a large English as a Second Language population, supported by a dedicated full-time ESL teacher. Many staff members have deep ties to the community, including teachers who once walked the same halls as students or have family members working in Bessemer City schools.

Health and wellness are also a priority. Through a partnership with Kintegra, Bessemer City Middle offers a telehealth program that provides behavioral and dental health resources, along with a school-based therapist and licensed counselor focused on helping students make healthy choices.

Strong community partnerships, including with the Boys and Girls Club and Bessemer City Council, help create a small-town atmosphere where students and families feel like part of a caring school family.

Athletics at Bessemer City Middle are a source of pride. Student athletes shine in tournaments and state-level competitions, especially in softball, girls’ basketball and track.

With a rich history that dates back to its beginnings as an African American school for grades 7-12, Bessemer City Middle School honors its past while preparing students for a bright future.
